The first thing that every model needs is pictures. In order to be hired for a modeling job, you need to be able to show potential clients what you look like. How do you get pictures?

We are not talking about snap shots taken by mom, but a professional portfolio. There are two ways to accomplish this.

One, go to a photographer and pay several hundred dollars for a professional modeling portfolio. A cheaper alternative is to find photographers willing to do a TFP (Trade for Photo) session with you. In a TFP agreement, both you and the photographer agree to exchange time and effort to produce images that you can both use to promote your work.

 This costs the model nothing but it will take a little more time and effort on the models part. Should you go to a modeling school? Most modeling schools are really finishing schools for young ladies.

The only real positive is that they do produce photos of the models that they can later use for self-promotion. Given the large expense of most modeling schools, you can find a cheaper way of putting together a professional modeling portfolio.

There is a common misconception about the modeling business. "You must be super skinny, super tall and super sexy to become a model!"

NOT TRUE!!!

Because advertisers need to target every different group of people in our society! And you are a part of our vast society as well!! There are people that like the same things as you and think, dress and look similar to you! These are who you will market the best to!

And especially now a days the variety in models is huge... Every thing is moving towards normal average looking people. Anyone can fit into the business!

Just the other day... my agency had a client for a glasses commercial. The client said that the model had to wear glasses in real life. They also stated that she needed to be... JUST AVERAGE looking!

And of course there is always work for people who are naturally... sexy.

*Note: Sexy is not so much a look as it is a personality!

Becoming a model is really easier than you think.

You just need to understand how the modeling business works.

If a girl is shorter than 5'9 that's ok! There is still a place for her! I have female model friends that are under 5'9 that get booked all the time! The one that gets booked the most is only 5'4!!! And of course a girl that is over 5'9 can do great as well!

The same applies for male models! Once you understand how the modeling business actually works, you will know what markets and agencies to place yourself with.

There are unlimited opportunities available to every different type of look, age, race, height and weight!

If that's true then why isn't everyone a model?

Well, lets go outside of your normal mode of thinking. Think outside the box. Thinking of this strictly as a business.

Imagine you are a modeling agent or client... And you see models every week for castings or open calls.

You are down to two models. One of these two is going to get the job or join the agency. They both have equally great pictures and experience. And they both match the look you are looking for.

What would you then base your decision on?

You would base it on who you LIKED the MOST... and who impressed you the most! The person with the BEST personality!

Makes sense doesn't it?

A lot of the time a model with lesser pictures can get a booking... just because they have such a great personality.

Agents and clients will pick models that they actually.. genuinely... like!!!

You must learn how to be so likeable that nobody can resist you!!!

Agents and clients are people too! They will help out whoever they like the most... And those who are confident enough to handle the modeling business.

Realize that they want to meet with someone who has no fear. That is already confident in themselves.

That has ENERGY!

They don't want to do much baby sitting at all. You wouldn't want to either... would you?

When you go into an Armani fashion show casting... during fashion week in Milan... The client will take a quick look at you... and tell you to show them your walk. You have about 30 seconds to a minute until the casting is done!

You only have one chance to nail your walk.. and leave a lasting impression on them, so they remember you over 400 other "hot" models!

You need to have your stuff down and your charisma and energy glowing like a light bulb!

That is why 99% of aspiring models don't make it. The mental aspect kills them!

Although everyone, when just being themselves, has awesome personality. It is rare to find people that can stay like that all the time. The tendency is... when we get into situations where we feel like, "there's a lot on the line"... we tend to have a lot of fear, anxiety and insecurity. This is the only reason why people fail in anything in life.

We place to much value on something. The result, is that we end up being so afraid of not having the thing we want... that WE DON'T GET IT!!! We ruin it for ourselves.

For example:

Someone goes into a modeling agency for an interview. The very second they walk through the door their mind fills them with fear!!! "What if they say no?" "What if they don't like me?".

As all this is all going on in their mind, it tears their self confidence apart. And remember: People will only have as much confidence in you, as you have in yourself.

So when the agent see's that they have no confidence... they lose confidence in them as well!!! "I can never send this person out on a casting", "No one will book them", "They have NO personality!!!", "They have no confidence".

But, you really do have tons of personality!!! You just weren't able to show it at that time! That happened because your mind took over! (This is what happened to me as well, until I figured out how to stop it!)

You MUST be "irresistible"!

A model needs to have something about them that just makes people want to look at them. NO MATTER WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE, you can still be irresistibly attractive!

This a lot easier than you may think. A few basic principles make this process easy for anyone. The best thing about it is that you will learn to truly like yourself. And as you do that everyone else will love/like you as well.

You MUST know how to walk the runway!

Runway modeling is a HUGE part of modeling. There is a lot of money to be made!

Modeling is more stressful than most jobs, believe it or not!

Each market has an age group and each age group needs models from that age group to model!
