Houston Models Network is devoted to educating new and aspiring models on how the mainstream (Fashion and Commercial) industry works. We will help you to understand your place in the industry, how to find an agency, what to do when you have an agency and go on a modeling job, and how to recognize and avoid the many scams that are waiting for you.
All too many "modeling information" sites are run by people who are trying to sell you something, or by well-meaning folks who have very limited experience in the industry. Many of these are models, who see only a small part of the picture, or often they are photographers who have had very limited experience in the real mainstream modeling industry. Much of what gets said on those sites is, quite honestly, naive.
This is a complex business, and people on the periphery often don't understand the dynamics of how it works. A lot of well-meaning advice is dangerous, or will cause you to make incorrect judgments about what you find in the industry. Some of it is even worse: people who have self-serving personal agendas and use their supposed position in the industry to "warn you" about real or imagined dangers that serve their personal needs, not yours.
We aren't here to sell you anything, won't ask you for any money, and won't suggest anyplace you ought to go to buy anything. We won't even warn you about specific people or organizations. Rather, we will try to equip you with the information you need to make your own judgments.
The contributors to this site collectively have decades of experience in the industry, as photographers, model agency owners and bookers, makeup artists and stylists at all levels: local and major market cities, in the US , Europe and Asia, and both fashion and commercial markets. We have extensive experience both with "brick and mortar" agencies and with the internet modeling scene. Our purpose is to share some of those years of expertise with you.
We've provided some detailed articles on the business that give you a lot of the background you need. Note, however, that this site deals only with professional mainstream commercial and fashion modeling (and a little bit of mainstream glamour). We discuss what happens in agency-level modeling, but not local, informal modeling, Internet modeling, things like mall fashion shows and similar kinds of work that models do. Those things are outside the scope of this site
